Staying fit and healthy is essential, but sometimes our circumstances change, and we need to adjust our gym membership accordingly. If you’re a member of The Gym Group and wish to cancel or freeze your membership, this blog post will guide you through the process.
Canceling Your Gym Group Membership
The Gym Group offers a straightforward cancellation process, but it’s essential to follow the steps correctly to avoid any unnecessary charges or hassles.
Step 1: Cancel Your Direct Debit (If Applicable)
If you pay for your Gym Group membership through a direct debit arrangement, you can cancel it directly with your bank. This action will automatically inform The Gym Group that you wish to cancel your membership. However, if you want to continue using the gym until the end of the current billing cycle, you’ll need to inform The Gym Group explicitly, or they will terminate your access immediately upon receiving the direct debit cancellation notice.
Step 2: Contact The Gym Group
If you pay for your membership via a recurring card payment, you’ll need to contact The Gym Group directly to request cancellation. The best way to do this is by emailing hello@thegymgroup.com. Make sure to cancel before your billing date, ideally at least four days in advance. If you cancel before the billing date, they will refund your payment for the upcoming billing cycle.
Step 3: Take Advantage of the 14-Day Cooling-Off Period
If you’ve recently joined The Gym Group and wish to cancel within the first 14 days, you can do so by emailing membership@thegymgroup.com, contacting them through the Member area on their website, or using their contact form. It’s essential to keep evidence of your communication, as they may charge you for the number of days you’ve used the gym before cancellation.
Refund Policy
It’s important to note that The Gym Group does not offer refunds for unused portions of your membership, except during the 14-day cooling-off period. If you cancel within the first 14 days, you’ll receive a refund of any joining fee, membership amount, and monthly membership amount you’ve paid, minus a prorated charge for the days you’ve used the gym.
Freezing Your Gym Group Membership
If you’re planning an extended vacation or recovering from an injury, you may consider freezing your Gym Group membership instead of canceling it altogether. This option allows you to pause your membership and restart it at any time without paying the joining fee again.
Here’s how to freeze your Gym Group membership:
- Log in to your Member’s Area on The Gym Group’s website.
- Select the “Your Gym Pass” tile.
- Choose “Freeze or Cancel Your Membership” from the options.
- Follow the instructions to freeze your membership.
As a Core member, you can freeze your membership for £6.99 per month. Plus members can freeze for up to three months at no additional cost. After using the three-month allowance as a Plus member, you can continue to freeze for £6.99 per month.
If you’re an Ultimate monthly member, you’re eligible for one month’s free freeze within a 12-month period. Once you add the freeze, your membership will remain active until your next payment date, after which the freeze will begin.
You can remove the freeze at any time, and you’ll be asked to pay a prorated portion of your monthly membership when you unfreeze, so you can use the gym again.
