Moving houses can be a chaotic process, and one of the essential tasks is canceling your utility services and ensuring you don’t get overcharged. In this blog post, we’ll discuss how to cancel your United Utilities account seamlessly and get refunds or credits if you’re eligible.

The Cancellation Process

Canceling your United Utilities account is a straightforward process, and you have two options:

  1. Standard Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel an order, you can do so at no cost up to 48 hours from the date and time your order was placed, as long as it has not been processed yet.
  2. Consumer Cancellation Rights: If you are making a Search Request as a consumer pursuant to the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have the right to cancel any Search Request within 14 days of making such a request without giving any reason.

To exercise this right, you must notify United Utilities prior to the expiry of the Cancellation Period, either by submitting the cancellation request for that order through your account or by writing to them at the provided address.

Moving Out of the North West

If you are moving out of the North West or moving into a property where you are no longer responsible for paying water bills, you should let United Utilities know. Here’s how:

  1. Call United Utilities: Contact them on 0345 026 7661 or use their MyAccount service.
  2. Provide Necessary Information: Inform them of the date you moved out or are due to move, the final reading from your old address, and your new address for sending the final bill or refund.

This step is crucial to prevent the accrual of additional charges, avoid a utilities overlap, and protect your data.

Transferring Your Account to a New Address

If you’re moving within the North West, you can transfer your United Utilities account to your new address. Here’s how:

  1. Inform United Utilities: Fill out one of their online forms or contact them directly.
  2. Provide Necessary Information: Give them the date you moved (or are due to move) out of your old address, the final reading from your old address if it has a water meter, and your new address or forwarding details.
  3. Create an Online Account: If you don’t have an online account, create one using your account number and email address.
  4. Check Tariffs and Payment Options: United Utilities’ team can help you with the lowest tariff, payment options, and any additional support you may need.

Refunds and Credits

If you’ve already paid for services beyond your move-out date, United Utilities will ensure that your final bill is accurate by considering the date you moved out and the final reading from your old address. If you are due a refund, it will be paid to you.
