Bidding farewell to giffgaff? Whether you’re jumping ship to a new mobile carrier or just taking a break from cellular service, this guide will ensure a seamless goodbye to giffgaff.

Keeping Your Phone Number

If you want to hold on to your current phone number when parting ways with giffgaff, you’ll need a PAC (Porting Authorization Code). A PAC allows you to “port” or transfer your number over to a new mobile network.

Here’s how to obtain a PAC from giffgaff:

  1. Fire off a text message with just “PAC” to 65075 from your giffgaff SIM
  2. Sign into your online giffgaff account and submit a PAC request

Giffgaff will issue you a PAC code valid for 30 days. Avoid cancelling right away – complete the transfer process with your new provider first.

The new carrier will need your PAC along with some additional details to initiate the number port:

  • Your current giffgaff phone number
  • Your full name and address
  • Serial number of your new SIM card

Once they submit the porting request, it typically wraps up within 1-2 business days with your number successfully transferred.

Parting Ways with Your Number

If you don’t need to keep your giffgaff number, an even simpler process awaits – request a STAC (Service Termination Authorization Code).

Text “STAC” to 65075 or log into your account to obtain a STAC valid for 30 days. Provide this code to your new mobile operator, and they’ll handle the cancellation of your giffgaff service.

Other Cancellation Housekeeping

Before leaving giffgaff behind, be sure to tie up a few loose ends:

  • Stop recurring payments: Head into your account settings and remove all payment methods to prevent further auto-renewals of any data plans
  • Use up existing balances: Anything leftover in data, minutes, or texts will expire once your giffgaff service ends
  • Request refunds (if applicable): Within the first 14 days, you may be eligible for full or partial refunds on any unused service credits or bundles

With those boxes checked, your account will automatically terminate after 6 months of inactivity.

As long as you secure the right PAC or STAC code upfront, breaking up with giffgaff is a drama-free process. Follow the steps, and you’ll soon be all settled in with your new mobile provider!
